When it comes to middle schools there are very few that score well here in Durham You're indicating that you're in Chapel Hill and asking about Chapel Hill schools, but Githens is in Durham. Typically this middle school feeds into Jordan HS which is one of the best in Durham.

For school information the best site for hard data is www.NCReportCard.org.

Governor's Village is in Chatham County so they would not be in the Chapel Hill schools but Chatham County ones. The closest to GV is Northwood High at present.

Hello, William,

As mentioned above, it is a very short distance from downtown Chapel Hill, the UNC campus and the UNC Hospital.

Directions: 15-501 S from Chapel Hill, Left on Mt Carmel Church Road, Right on Old Lystra,
Left on Shady Nook Ct. diagonally across from Zapata on R, lot at end of cul de sac

It is in the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools System.

The elementary school is "Mary Scroggs".
The middle school is "Grey Culbreth"
The high school is "Carrboro High School".

I hope this helps,
Debbie

We have 3 fantastic High Schools in Chapel Hill: Chapel Hill High; East Chapel Hill High; and Carrboro High. My Son went to East and had a great experience as well as getting into his first choice college. Chapel HIll is a great community to raise a family and the neighborhoods in the East district are diverse and more than accommodating to any family's needs. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

One of the important things to know about the Chapel Hill Carrboro School System CHCSS is that school assignment is generally based on neighborhood proximity to the school AND socio-economic diversity based on free and reduced lunch. Every time a new school is built, people are redistricted. If you are absolutely set on certain schools, then definitely live close to the schools so that it is not an issue should another school be built. No new schools are expected for several years.

As a generalization, almost all the schools are fairly equivalent. There are die hard parent advocates at each school. The differences become more evident at the high school level. As you already know, the biggest effect you an have on your kids is to spend time reading to and with them, discussing books, etc. What you do at home has an effect.

This is a fabulous area to raise a family. Our kids loved living here.

There are programs for children with Autism within the Chapel Hill school district and through UNC hospital as well. It's one of the benefits of living in an educated and liberal area with a stronger than average local economy.

To find out more about the programs available through the school system I would check out this link:

If you have any ther questions about the area in general or the home buying process here in North Carolina (it's different from NY which I'm also familair with) feel free to contact me through my profile here on Trulia, I'd be happy to speak with you.

Happy New Year!

Zipcodes don't apply here for districting.

Here's a reference map that will show you the districts for the high schools and the other levels depending on what you select from choices across the top of the page.

Let me know if you need some help finding a home, I'd be very happy to do so. www.kevincohan.com
