When looking dont use the word section 8. Tell them you have a housing voucher. There are homes in Chandler that will accept it. It's just a little work. Try and find a place where the owner is the one you will be going through. There aren't many but they're out there. I just found a ;nice house in Chandler that they are accepting my voucher. You have to kind of sell yourself first. Let them know you are clean and have good references. Don't hit them with the fact you have a voucher right away. Good Luck ... more

The crime rate in this neighborhood appears to be very low. This is a gated community so access is limited. What also helps is that the neighborhood is very small (about three square blocks) and the neighborhood association has lot's of gatherings throughout the year so residents get to know one another and watch out for one another. I am a career law enforcement officer who lives in this neighborhood and picked this neighborhood in part because I believe it to be safe.

Hi Annmarie, I'm sure you would want to work with an agent that is up to date on everything about SunBird and as of 01/01/2014, the HOA fee is $820 Annually or $410 Semi Annually. SunBird has the lowest HOA fees of all adult communities in Chandler or Gilbert and one of the nicest facilities. When they do raise the HOA fees, it is usually only around $20/year where other communities are going up over $100/year. ... more

If you'd like a glimpse of the police incident reports in any neighborhood, type an address in at Keep in mind, all addresses will likely show some police incidents in the area and the incident symbols shown on this site are left up to your interpretation, although they are labeled and defined.

Best of luck!

Feel free to contact me. Your neighborhood on Ivanhoe is one I pass every morning and evening to and from work and, thus, am extremely capable of being a very good information source for you as well as an excellent REALTOR. We will need to talk about financing, since some condo communities may not allow for all types of financing. If you decide that Tucson is a better fit, I have a very good reference that I can give to you. I have had several clients use my Tucson connection and they have all been very happy. Cooper Commons is not a gated community. It does not have a golf course. There is a neighborhood pool, which isn't very big, but it's very nice and is mostly shaded. We bought our home here 3 years ago and we love it. We feel safe. I don't know of any problems with crime. The people here are very friendly, but not in your face! LOL! There is nothing we DON'T like about it. ... more

Furnished Rentals are harder to find in the Ocotillo Area. You may be better off just renting furniture as well if it is only for a 3 month period.

Dear Premnath:

There will be noise and patterns could change over time.

Another thing to consider is resale value. Future buyers will have the same concern that you are having.

There is no reason not to buy if you get a fantastic price. However, ask yourself if you will be questioning your decision for years to come. A train is like an elephant in the living room. Even if you try to ignore it, you know it is still there.

May I wish you the best.

As a licensed Realtor I can't comment on how safe an area is but for buyers I have them review the Buyers Advisory and in which, are the following links. You can click on these to see crime stats for the city, or any city in Arizona for that matter. Hope this helps :) Spirit

Crime Statistics
Crime statistics, an imperfect measurement at best, provide some indication of the level of criminal activity in an area. To check the crime statistics for the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert and Peoria, go to or the city of Phoenix website A visit or phone call to other law enforcement agencies may be required.
For crime statistics in all Arizona cities go to click on the city/town and search for “crime statistics.”
