There must be more to the story if it took 9 months to "work" on your loan. My guess is that the lender is not incompetent if they had the patience to work on a file that long. The appraisal is a 3rd party report and they have to contact you directly if it is a refinance, or the Realtor or builder if it is a purchase. Pretty hard to appraise the wrong home if someone else has to let you in. Best of luck to you. ... more

Have your buyer agent estimate the market value of the home for you. When you apply for a mortgage the bank is going to require (and charge you for) an appraisal at that point. I wouldn't chance wasting money on an appraisal for a home you may never be able to purchase.
