Can be OK if you are in a "category" like young single, park parent,or barfly. Personally, I find it diverse and kind of cute but people don't necessarily befriend each other in all these restaurants, bars etc.

The social scene is varied, mirroring the people who live in the neighborhood. On the one hand, you have the families with children, who connect around school and their children's activities. I raised two kids here, and the web of connections just grew and grew as the kids got older. Even now, as they go to school in Manhattan, we still socialize with the parents of their schoolmates from elementary school. On the other hand, Fifth Ave has bars and more music, which appeals to a younger, and sometimes childless, crowd. Southpaw's, down near Flatbush, is known as a great venue for bands. Barbe, on the other hand, just a a small rioom behind the bar where world music and Jazz gets played. Prospect Park, a few blocks freom 7th Ave, is a huge magnet, especiallty in the warm weather. Note that certain areas of the park are Wi Fi hotspots, a plus. ... more

The social scene in Prospect Heights is thriving and getting better all the time. If you can't find something to do that suits you in the immediate neighborhood, you can walk a few block to the neighborhoods surrounding the area. These are some of the most desirable areas in Brooklyn; Park Slope, Fort Greene, Downtown Brooklyn. ... more

The social scene in East Flatbush and Brooklyn in general is active. In the summer months, there are normally free concerts and sometimes fairs in the bigger parks. The Prospect Park normally has different cultural events often. Families have barbeques and parties in the parks, there is always some type of event. There are different types of restaurants, like Chinese, Mexican, Italian, West Indian, American, Spanish and Fast foods all over. I love East Flabush as I have lived in this area for a very long time and know a great deal about the culture here. ... more
