I have lived here since 1992, raised two kids. The nearest hospital is 27 mi from here and the life flight is just minutes away at our local airport. Anything serious you get flown out. As far as seeing a Dr we have several, same with dentists. We also have a new urgent care facility here. I would rather be here than those giant hospitals in the city filled with people waiting to get in. I think in some cases we get better care here.... more

The community was also well supported by the timber industry and we have alot of vacation spots but alot of the timber industry has been shut down. I hear the invironmentalists have cases against timber sale for the next 20 years so its not going to pick up.... more
We moved here in July of 2011 from Kansas City, MO, and any negatives there might be like lack of shopping malls are out-wieghed by the many positives of living in such a beautiful area, with so many things to do. The people here are wonderful and very helpful, it was the best decision we made, when we choose Brookings to retire to. I hope you will find the same paradise we have found.... more
Curry Medical Center is a great place to find a doctor, and there is a hospital in Gold Beach or one Crescent City, CA each is about 30 minutes away, Curry Medical Center is in town and has great doctors and the rest of the staff is very nice as well.... more
Keizer is in Salem, and Portland, so the northern coast would get you within driving distance, if it's the coast you want. Most of in the Willamette Valley find the drive to the coast great, and then we are close to the Cascade range as well, and easy drive to Bend and Sisters for that area, for that central Oregon experience, or the Columbia Gorge, a little too much to explain to see here.
