In the 300K price range, you will need to stick to towns north / east of Bridgeport. Also try Danbury. Towns to the west of Bridgeport are much higher in price. As for property taxes, yes they are expensive but not as expensive as New York's suburbs. Unfortuately, in the northeast U.S. property taxes are higher than the rest of the U.S. Most of it goes to public schools and the schools are of higher quality supposedly. ... more

Hiring a listing agent that specializes in selling homes that need work can accomplish that as well as getting the most for the house when buyers compete.
