As a custom home builder in the Hill Country the budget factors to consider are, in no particular order:
- Cost of getting utilities to the build site
- Cost of the driveway and other flatwork areas
- Cost of the slab!!! By FAR the biggest factor. Once a slab gets beyond 36" out of the ground the costs really start to go up fast.
Other factors to consider are:
- Deed restrictions
- Potential flood zones
- Access (location)
I'm a builder, not a lender or a real estate agent. So my perspective various on a few of these things. I tell my client to build what they want, where they want, based on what they can afford.
