My husband and I just bought one and are going down to pick out all the incidental things on Monday. We obviously really like them. We were not intending to buy a house and were on vacation, but when we toured the cottage style home we were sold. We are very conservative and frugal folks, but we fell in love. We intend to use the home in retirement. I don't know what you are looking for, but for us it was perfect. ... more

Hi Gadomer,

I would suggest gauging which would be most suitable for you by driving around the neighborhoods and getting a 'feel' for which would suit your family best. If you are not based here we would be happy to send you video of each neighborhood. Katharina Johnson who is on my team lives in Biltmore Lake so can obviously go into great detail,

Nanette, I use to live in Biltmore Lake. There are nice families there. However, many seem to be more interested in keeping up with the Jones's. There are many properties there because of many families that moved in with variable rate loans that could not afford the new payment and rate. Or they have been relocated with their job. Or they have been laid off and had to let the house go into foreclosure. You will find many foreclosures there. Make sure you get a great deal if you do buy there. We bought our home for 350K and at the time it appraised for 380, a year before we moved we had it reapprasied for 430, today I can't even sell it for 300. I am stuck.

There are many rentals in the area including Blltmore Lake to see if you like the area. You can rent a house there for 2000 to 2900 per month. That will give you a chance to make your own decision.

you will love living in Asheville.

Nancy,

You are asking perhaps one of the best first questions any property owner can ask. Unfortunately for you the answer is not so simple. There are as many answers out there as there are agents. Be very careful not to be swayed by want you want to hear. Only a “ready willing and able buyer” can truly tell you what your property is worth. However, history of recently sold property can give an experience agent some general idea of what you could expect. Be should to consider the number homes that have sold within the last 6 – 12 months and compare this to the amount of homes available today.

All Real Estate is local is the first rule to follow. I can get you a great agency in your area that will address not only you needs but listen to and understand your dreams. Call or email me!
