First things first. Fix your credit. In the early 2000's money was easy and lots of people with bad credit bought houses and then in the late 2000's many of those people lost their houses. Some people fixed the issues that caused their bad credit and are still owners.
Getting on a budget. Scheduling your bills, creating an emergency fund to avoid having to go further into debt. Paying down your balances but leaving accounts open, disputing any errors on your report are just some of the steps you need to take. It's easier than you think, but it takes some effort. Maybe the goal of buying a home will be the motivation you need.
There are lenders who assist with credit repair. They may have more specific help for you based on your situation.

San Antonio is a ever growing market with new jobs that come up every day. It is all a question of the degree that you have earned and the field you are wanting to go into. If you do not know, would suggest taking a placement test that most colleges offer for free to their students. Some companies out there would approve you taken those tests as it shows you would be a right fit for the field. ... more

The Northwest Crossing subdivision is the second largest in San Antonio right behind The Great Northwest. That stated any numbers that you get from the San Antonio government website may be skewed as some of the streets where police have been called to answer a disturbance are sometimes placed in the wrong subdivision. That stated, perception is reality and driving through the neighborhood will give you a good indication of how the homes are cared for. Overall, the HOA is very active and just last weekend on April 13, 2013 residents volunteered their time to assist in keeping the community a nice place to live by collecting debris and various materials from the residents with the help of the City of San Antonio which provided 2 garbage trucks to haul away the unwanted material from the residents homes. Others spent time painting fences in the parks and along the streets where permission was given by the home owners.
The security that drives through the neighborhood of over 3800 homes are San Antonio police officers and can address a criminal situation without hesitation. Overall, Northwest Crossing is a great place to be a homeowner and resident. Please feel free to drive by the club house at the corner of Dover Ridge and Weybridge and talk to Dusty or Mary about the community.
Northside ISD schools are rated very well and like any large area, you will need to decide where you want to live with respect to the school that you want your child to attend. One client told me recently that the school must have a rating of 7 or higher for her to consider sending her child to that school. Because they have 3 children and they will all be attending either an Elementary, Middle and High School they will need to focus on specific streets and not just the school district overall.
I certainly hope that I've answered some of your questions and shed some light on your concerns about Northwest Crossing and 78250.
Thank you,
Randy Elgin

Like many areas... it can vary depending on the specific streets you are interested in. This is an older part of the city so there are some very nice areas near St. Mary's college (a Very notable Law School), and Woodlawn park.

It all depends on what are the criteria of your rating and what details are most important (traffic, taxes, school, home prices, etc.)

More information would be need to better answer your question.

Not very many Realtors deal with apartments as they don't participate in the MLS system. However, my mom lives in that area and I sell in that area so I know of a few. As to the reviews, not sure about that. I can see what I can find out next week.

Strong reason why renting makes no sense right now... with rates being so low... tons of down payment assistance programs, etc. With an aggressive as hell buyer''s agent.. in many cases, it may be less out of pocket to buy than to rent... I've seen it several times lately..

I have inspected many homes in the NW area of San Antonio through the years. You will have a nice variety of homes to pick from. I do suggest a home inspection (structural and mechanical) to determine any items in need of repair or to be replaced. This area of San Antonio is growing and offers good schools and shopping. Feel confident the person you choose to assist you with your search will do a good job. ... more
