Great answer Tom. I agree that these are hard times for people but the reality is if you didn't make your payments you need to re-establish credit before you can borrow again.

This is a very interesting question and it does open a bigger question when looking for a home.
Should a buyer falls in love with one property and wait for it to be on the market can we look a bit more and find out what constitute a home.
As most people say the most important in Real property is Location, Location, and Location. A home is defined by four major categories. The first category is the location, which city or neighborhood the house is located in and on what terrains. The second is much funding can a buyer gets to finance the purchase of the home. The third is lot size. The fourth is the home specific features which include the interior, # bed, # bathes, home size, etc. Which categories are in the control of the buyer? When you think about it the only thing that a buyer can control is the home specifics. You can change interior and in some cases increase the sqft of the home.
So why am I telling you all of that. By a method of compromising you can find a house in the same location that will be affordable and with some investment you can change it to the house of your dreams.
Let me know what you think,
Paz

Arlene Minar answered:
Hi Erika. Currently for 2010, taxes are approx. 2.44 percent of the assessed value of a home. So if you use $99,000 x 2.44, the taxes for the year will be $2416. You can home stead and that might save you approx. 10 percent a year. If you are over 65, you can get a great exemption plus the homestead exemption. If I can be of further assistance, just give me a call at 361-765-6632. Sincerely, Arlene Minar, Realty World Island Properties ... more
