I don't think you can go wrong with either location. Both Midtown and Brookhaven are great areas to invest in. Due to the fact that they are both highly sought after locations and will likely remain that way in the future, purchasing property there would be a smart move. I would argue that Midtown gets the slight edge due to the school district (another major factor in gauging strong property values). I looked all over the north side and found some lovely places but access to things we wanted for our family were all on the SOUTH SIDE!
We wound up in Fayette County, near Peachtree City to take advantage of the excellent school system. It also allows for access to the over 100 miles of golf cart paths that you and your family can use to go just about anywhere; food shopping, the Doctor's office, 25 minutes to the Airport, etc.
We have now been in a Gated Golf Community with a junior Olympic swimming pool, play ground, activities and very active ALTA tennis for just over 10 years. Arnold Palmer designed the 18 holes.
Whitewater Creek is know around the south side as the place with something for everyone. We also have 3 lakes.
Pilots are required to live within 20 minutes of the airport, so I have been told. You find that on the south side of Atlanta.
I was lucky enough to run into a few teachers when we were looking and this is where they wanted to have their children educated. There are also some awesome private school options should that appeal to you.
Check out (Gated Whitewater Creek)
Also, Newhaven, Woodcreek; Highgrove and surrounding areas. You will be surprised at the access to Atlanta.
Starr's Mill High School / Whitewater High School / McIntosh High School
We wanted access without feeling cramped in another McMansion situation, the south side has it.
