depends on what the zoning is for your lot. call the county zoning office, they're quite helpful there. you'll need to apply for a building permit for the construction, but before you get too far in the design or architectural plans, check with the county. ... more

Joanne, the value would be figured in with the comps for the development and the extent of the work that was completed in the basement. Did it add any bedroom space? Did it add any bathroom space? Does it have an exterior entrance? Are there other homes in the development that are for sale??? Do they have finished basements? I have sold quite a few Toll Brothers Homes, a very good quality builder in desirable communities. Please contact me if I can help. Thanks ... more

Stewart, I would first ask about your current loan obligation on the Goose Creek TH, is your current mortgage less then a potential rental income for the TH? How many years are left? Do you plan on staying in the area and downsize to a smaller home? Is the current TH in a good rental market area? There are a lot of things to consider when investing in rental property, but being in such a good area that continues to see growth is always a good investment.
As far as office space in Ashburn... There is a considerable amount of office rentals that are available for lease now. Retail space is always prime in Ashburn if you can find it to purchase.

Definitely Toll Brothers! Construction is stellar, neighborhoods are beautiful and well maintained. We have been in a Toll home for 11 years and have never had any issues since we built the home. Not sure if you will be able to find new construction in Ashburn in your price range, may need to go further north towards Leesburg. ... more

Tanya Kerr answered:
While both builder are putting out a good product the feel of the community is completely different.
One Loudoun is trying to bring a more "urban" and walkable lifestyle to the region. The trade off is less green space and yards, but an active community with events and a downtown "market" with vendors and restaurants within walking distance.
Brambleton is emphasizing the green area it is built in. The walking there is much more centered on the excellent paths they provide.
Suggestions to drive both areas and get a feel for the neighborhoods are very good. I always recommend driving by at a time you plan to be in the home the most. Do you envision time on your deck late afternoons and weekends? Make sure the home doesn't back to commuter routes that may make that less enjoyable. Looking for an active community for younger kids. Drive by after school and be sure there are kids in the area.
Hope some of this helped and please don't hesitate to contact me directly with any other questions.

Stucco has been problematic in the past; I recall a Pulte home that the builder had to remove the original materials and put in a newer stucco material. When was the home built? I would suggest a stucco inspection to make sure that there are not current moisture issues. ... more

Matt Shultz answered:
From a commuting standpoint, Ashburn would be your best bet. The metro line to DC has been completed in Reston, VA and that would most certainly help out with exhausting commute. Haymarket is a good choice for those who would like more purchasing power and do not mind the long commute to DC. Welcome to Northern Virginia! I hope that you found the house of your dreams.

Hi Matt,

Was the listing done by a realtor or was this entered in on a specific web site? If it was done by your realtor you will need to have them correct it on their end.

Randy Lucas answered:
Hi Shekhar:

I would strongly recommend that you utilize the services of a home inspector for both your pre-dry wall and final home inspections. Costs will vary depending on the size of the home but budget for around $600 for both.

It's important to identify any potential issues sooner than later and to make sure your builder knows what you need to be address and to get any issues resolved in an timely manor.

One of the many values that your working with a good realtor brings to the relationship, is that they should have a strong rolodex of contacts to confidently guide you to successfully address issues like this or any part of the home buying process. The bottom line...a good realtor will guide you in making smart decisions throughout the home buying process.

Best of luck and if you need any additional information please feel free to email me at randylucas@socialsmarthomes.com or call me at 703.906.0000.

The best advice I can give is exactly what you are doing....Do your research!. Every builder has good qualities and some not so good qualities. Willowsford is one community that has different builders they work with. There is Shenstone which is Toll Brothers and Stone Fox which has Craftmark Homes and the list goes on...

If you can visit the area I would be happy to take you around and you can see the different communities and get a feel for the different builders.

I hope this helps you!
