Contact the housing authority in your county. There should be a link on your county's webpage or look in the blue pages of the telephone book.

I met a neighbor the other day and I thought I write this for those of you who may be sick and may not be able to keep your home painted and the grass cut to the expected standard, these people, my neighbors lost their home cause they could not paint their home and keep it up to the standards of Mt Lebanon, The woman whom I met told me her husband is not expected to live, with high medical bills and her losing her job, they now lost their home and one of the factors involved she told me was that her home was not up to standard and they were fined heavily, which was a result of them losing their home, so if i were any of you on here who are older, not well and etc, be sure you can UPKEEP whatever home you buy, it was so sad to see them selling all their worldly possessions on their front lawn for a mere dollar, this broke my heart and made me rethink bout staying here into retirement because we dont have a considerable amount of cash and I just found out I have a serious medical condition now, and i dont want that to be me or anyone else! ... more

The others are right ... run, don't walk, away - unless you are getting a STEAL.

I know that Pittsburgh didn't get hit the way a lot of other areas did but it is still a buyers market. Why buy someone else's problem unless it's at a great discount? And even then - make sure that when YOU sell that you wait until all the trees have filled in, so YOUR buyers don't hear anything at all ... ... more

Jeffrey Bennett answered: is a good source for third party comparison of school districts in and around Pittsburgh. For the public system, see Upper St. Clair (South Hills) is nationally ranked. There are also lots of very good private schools in the area, particularly in the city (including single sex schools).

Don Tepper answered:
I'm not a lawyer, so this isn't legal advice. But, first, read the lease and see if there are any provisions in there in the event the apartment is, or becomes, inaccesssible or uninhabitable. The lease itself may specify something, such as prorated rent for the month(s) in which that occurs.

Second, if the lease is silent on that, first find out what the law provides. Then, armed with that information, either: (1) try negotiating with the landlord, or (2) have your lawyer conduct the negotiations. Unfortunately, at several hundred dollars an hour, you'd probably end up paying a lawyer more than you'd save via a successful negotiation. Nevertheless, those are some of your options.

Good luck.

I will give you a few favorites. I like Mt. Lebanon for great schools and public safety. It is close to everything and kept very clean. It has a neat main street with lots of shops and restaurants. For a quieter more breathing room type of area, try Jefferson Hills, good schools. Lower taxes to the South in washington County, North Strabane and Peters Twp. are both nice with great schools and public safety. Check my site for more ideas. ... more
