Hi Fire_9696,

I know this is an old question. My answer is intended to help people that may come across this question will searching for answers regarding VA guidelines with an active CAIVRS alert.

You do not need a clear CAIVRS to qualify for a VA mortgage as long as you have a lender like me that knows what they're doing and doesn't have an overlay for it.

Hi Oldmanrusters,

The CAIVRS alert will last 3 years from the date the claim was paid. Some people are running into problems with this because a claim was never paid so they stay in the system indefinitely.

If you have VA entitlement then it doesn't matter if you have a CAIVRS alert.

Tough Going answered:
Hi, My mortgage processor finally pulled a cleared CAIVRS, but there is a note that states: Case Warning: Borrower(s) have CAIVRS alert and/or mortgage credit sanction. My CAIVRS recently cleared after the 3 year waiting period, so we should be good to go, but she does not know why that note appears. Any ideas? ... more

Dear John B:

If you would like to get in touch with us, we can direct you to a lender that may be able to help you. However, are you already working with an agent? We could always speak to that agent re: the lender info. we have.

Thank you very much and we look forward to hearing from you soon!
