Hi Martha,
Hip Joints, Loud Music, DJ, Bar/Food, I WOULD SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING:

Luka's Taproom on Broadway: pool room, dancing, fried food

MUA: great burger and live dj, grafitti on walls, hipster joint, great for big parties

Ozumo Oakland: Sushi joint, hip spot good cocktails, hip lounge

Disco Volante: in Chinatown, great late night eats, music venue, open till 1:30AM

Bar 389: on grand ave, taco truck out front, great neighborhood bar, people like to have parties in the back near the dj.

CANA: on lakeshore, live salsa cuban music on saturdays and sunday afternoons till 4ish, then dj. People love to dance inside on the streets and the food is not bad. Unlimited MIMOSAS!

Best of luck, and get your party on!!!!
