I'm not sure where driving schools are located. I agree that you should check with the local department. They will be able to give you some suggestions and help you find something close by. http://www.brightsdrivingschool.com/road-tests/ ... more

There is no mass transit in Prattville, however, there is county transportation for the elderly. They have a van that will come to your home and take you to the doctor, store, or where ever you need to go. There are neighborhoods in Prattville that are close to stores. If you know what neighborhood you are looking at I can give you general distances. There are some great neighborhoods close to Wal-Mart (Highland Ridge). ... more

many is a relative term. Yes there are breakins and robbery in this area. Generally if you leave valuables in you car over time and most likely during the summer they will disapear from your vehicle. There are folks with substance abuse problems living in the area and not far away (literally across the tracks).
My house was broken into twice over about 12 years and they are generally looking for quick cash items easy to pawn or sell, electronics, jewelry, cash. My daughters coin bank was stolen along with a canon slr camera and several silver dollar coins. A couple of cameras over the years and a DVD collection from my wife's van have recently acquired a new owner.
A burgular alarm and homeowners insurance are highly recommended I have the latter not the former. My neighbor has an alarm and a dog and has yet to have his home burgularlized. This is a transient neighborhood, mostly students, and older people most on a fixed income and the theives are just passing through looking for easy marks. If you have a lawnmower and it is not behind lock, it will roll away.
Another benefit is DWIs passing through the neighborhood, usually in the summer and early Saturday or Sunday morning after the bars close betwee 1:00 am and 5:00am. I suspect the bar patrons try to find alternative routes home hoping to bypass police check points that are sometimes used to nab drunk drivers after the bars close.
We have experienced and or witnessed at least 5 different drunk driving incidents during the past 10 years with at least 1 hit and run. Thankfully no one has been seriously injured in these preventable acts. Not a quiet neighborhood but generally enjoyed because it is near the park and convient to the interstate, UAB and downtown.

Alabaster has no public transit such as a bus or tram system. But if your mother is a senior citizen, she can call ClasTran @ 325-8787. They charge a fee, but they'll take her pretty much wherever she wants to go.
Hope this helps.
