I decided to move here in early 2010 because my 140-mile commute to Rosemead from El Cajon was getting too long, and this 100-mile commute cut off an hour of my time. I have to live in the country because I have horses and alpacas and show dogs. I looked all over -- Anza, LRE, and Aguanga (not in LRE). I am so glad that I did not buy in LRE! I live on an adjoining street, which LRE wanted to annex so a Board member could get to the 371 more quickly. We had a neighborhood meeting and planned to legally fight that if it occurred. My street and surrounding area is full of nice people and we don't pay any HOA. If it rains, the men with tractors go out and smooth the dirt roads FOR FREE. Nobody bothers anybody. Many of the properties in the area have been purchased by pot growers the past few years, which has raised the prices. But that is true all over CA since they allowed permit growing. Many people rent pot growers space on their property. The only crime I hear of is mail theft, so I have a PO box and the USPS installed a heavy duty community metal locking box at the corner. I have dogs and 4 guns and a security system on my house, so I am not too worried. I suggest that you not buy in LRE but that you look at the surrounding areas. ... more
