point system for broker eligibility?

Asked by Guy, New York, NY Thu Nov 14, 2013

Hey all, looking for some help determining how to get a brokers license. the broker's license application states that they require a minimum of 3500 points and 2 years experience. Open listings count as 1 point, so my question is are they strict with how what you use to get the points? Can someone not have a single sale or rental over 2 years but post 3500 listings, and still get the license?

Of`course, it is not so easy to receive 3500 points only with open listings, that`s why you should try to find more exclusive listings to work with! Wish you good luck!

Hi Guy,

First you have to obtain your salesperson's license. Once you do, the Department of State does not care how you get points, just that you earn the points you claim. There are not enough for sale by owners around for you to legitimately get 3,500 open listings in 2 years. It would be a better idea for you to invest your time in learning how to do sales and/or rentals and then do some transactions.

3500 listings to get a license you better get to work on some heavy prospecting and marketing.
