First of all you should take a 75 hours real estate course. While you are studing, a lot of real estate agencies will come to your classes and tell about their company. You can choose somebody. If not, just find the agency which is working in your area, and try! If this business is for you, you will succeed everywhere! Wish you luck!!!

That's a bold step, but if you don't have a big mortgage or rent or other mouths to feed at this time, go for it!
I recommend the NY Real Estate Institute for classes. They are very flexible, so you can easily work you hours around them.
I have worked as an with several agencies in my 17 yr career:
Sopher, Douglas Elliman, Sothebys, & Cooper Square Realty.
Now I am at Keller Williams.
I can tell you that without a doubt, I made the best career move of my life. And here's just 4 reasons:

1. Not only do you get MUCH higher splits than those firms, but you can keep 100% of your commission after the portion of the house's split reaches a certain amount. Yeah, they do have fees that they charge you here and there, and other things you may need or want are ala carte. But you still come out ahead, especially if you are working mostly buyers, because then you have no advertising expenses.. no ads to pay for, no signs to buy, no mailings to print and send, etc...

2. There is constant training. Even veterans who've been in the business for decades still attend these classes and workshops because they are great and bring results.

3. There are KW branches all over the country, and even in other countries. If you decide to move out of the area you're in now, guess what? You still have a job! And you dont have to reset your whole system and start fresh. Just will have to learn some geography, big deal.

4. By far the BEST reason is that when you work here, you become a "shareholder" in the sense that over time you accrue a lot of $$ from your market center's profits And your profit share tree can just grow and grow... You can retire and still get huge checks deposited into your account every month, and when you die, your beneficiary (child, spouse, etc) will continue to receive them for the rest of their lives. That brings "providing for your family" to a whole new level. There are many agents who simply collect over $100,000 a year without doing any deals (!). Sit back, relax, travel, enjoy your life.

There are more reason why this is the fastest growing real estate firm in the country... their technology, social consciousness and giving back to the community, etc. I would like to tell you all about it. If you or anyone else reading this would like to know more about it, please email me at markweitzman@kw.com or call me at 646-281-8763. It doesn't matter what state you're in.

I hope this was helpful. Good luck!
