"Top" in what? Number of properties listed? Number of properties sold? Volume of sales? Number of agents? Percentage of agents? Percentage of total sales vs agents? How do you define top company?

I'm not a fan of the term "top". Sometimes I find "top" agents don't have the time of day, not even for a fellow agent.
Are you asking your colleagues as in you're searching for a new brokerage? :)
Or are you inquiring as to what a buyer or seller should look for in a real estate company, in general?

KK German, Wainwright Real Estate
(FYI, I am a fan of WEW. I find their agents to be well trained and down to earth. No airs for the most part.)

William E. Wood by volume in the Hampton Roads area is higher than all the other companies. (at least that's the numbers I have seen.) We do ALL work well together though!

Gosh Don....loaded question!! I guess RE/MAX is the top real estate company in the world with volume, transactions and transactions per agent. I would think these facts create agents that have the most experience generally and are very business oriented.

Hopefully by extension, RE/MAX Ambassadors (being the only RE/MAX in Norfolk) is representative of RE/MAX worldwide!! ;-)

Fortunately, there are a lot of great companies in Norfolk and we all work together quite well normally!
