What should I do? Crazy guy with a Trumpet

Asked by Santiago Kensel Sanchez, Chicago, IL Fri Jul 19, 2013

What should I do?

Today I went to take a look at a new listing in Chicago. In front of the house was an old Chevy Tahoe. There was a man sitting on the roof of the car, in a beach chair, wearing sunglasses. I became curious because he was up there throughout my visit to the home.

The owner of my listing told me that they call the guy the “trumpet man”. He stays there every day from 9 a.m. to 3p.m. when the weather is good. He makes awful noises on the trumpet to scare people; nothing like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra!

I began to think that this could cause a problem for the sale, if the man is at it day after day. Who would buy a house given this situation?

Still curious, I approached the man in a friendly way and said, “good morning.”

Santiago,

As you find it to be noise someone will find it to be beautiful music. Like with all real estate we emphasize on the positive with the property we are selling and we let the buyers broker do there part. This may present a problem if you are a dual agent...

Best of luck

Wish I could have read the next page... See if there is such a thing as a nuisance law in the area and report him.

Didn't get to read the second page, but what solution did you craft? Sounds like he was not a scary person, just an eccentric.

"...the world of normality is something that often exists within an individuals mind......."
Bill, I like that and will blantantly steal it when needed.

I like to remind myself that if there is no 'character' in your community, you are the character.
-
Then I'd install the cameras and motion detectors OR a nice 'dicounted' secrity package for the new owner.

Pay a small fee for him to perform at the first open house.

Get a trombone and accompany him.

Maybe the new owners will like Black and White tile in the foyer!
