Was just licensed in another state - had to move back to Chicago and now I'm completely lost.

Asked by rachel.e.gaffen, Chicago, IL Sat May 11, 2013

I just received my license in Atlanta before having to move back to Chicago two days ago. I've never been in the field and I'm looking for a company to hold my hand through the beginning of my real estate career. I was set on working for a company in Atlanta who offered endless CE courses, leads, mentors and non stop associate broker connection. Is there a company here that will provide me with the tools I need to start out? I'm extremely excited to dive into the deep end of this but with my lack of experience I'm afraid I'm going to get lost somewhere in a company with no training wheels.
Thanks for your help

Not sure if you have made a decision, but Century 21 Universal is the company to work with. Weekly Free training, no desk fees, 120 agents can't be wrong. We are the largest in Rogers Park, but we work through Chicagoland. You really need to come see us before you sign with someone else.

The best bit of advise I can give is talk to the broker you were going to work for in Atlanta and see if they have any recommendations or if they know the perfect office for a person like you. There are some agencies out there that will help you out with CE courses, leads, mentors, and then there are others where they will throw you out there and have you fend for yourselves. Utilize the network you created in Atlanta and see if they have any recommendations in Chicago. It's all about who you know in this business.
I hope that helps!

I think you fears are valid. When you begin interviewing broker's ask them where they stand on the very issues you have brought up here. Your head is in the right place.

EXIT has great training, mentoring, and NO desk fees. Plus we have very competitive splits and residual income opportunities that fill in the gaps in between closings. Finally, we have all the tools you need as well: contact management systems, e-signing platforms, and impressive marketing materials. Interview with a few companies before you make the leap. Remember that in real estate your name is going to sell real estate more than your company's. As a result, don't just go to a license mill because you have seen their TV commercials. I can introduce you to any EXIT franchise owner in the country if you contact me. andy@yourmovenow.com or 312-566-SELL

Good luck with your transition!

Welcome back to Chicago and good luck - it's a great time to be in this market. There are a lot of great companies here but I think you would benefit from a company that encourages teams within their agency. This can help provide the training that you are looking for. As a lender I work with a lot of companies in and out of The Chicago area and I am always excited to partner up with new agents and help them build their business. Please feel free to contact me to discuss what experiences that I have had with various companies - perhaps one of them would be a good fit

Interview with a few companies in your area and go with the one that will provide you with the most support and opportunity to learn. Think about working for a top producing agent to learn on the job. The $$$ will come later.
