Top 3 reasons you give a post a thumbs down.

Asked by CJ Brasiel, San Jose, CA Tue Feb 26, 2008

This seems to a common topic so I thought it would be interesting to hear why folks click the TD.
My top reasons:
1.) Too much self promotion
2.) "You idiot, don't you know anything" type of responses. Especially when they are directed at consumers.
3.) "I agree with..." or "This is a great thread"

I totally agree with #1 (oh, no... now I've broached #3 and will be getting a thumbs down!)... whenever I see someone say "unsolicited"... "please contact me offline at 555-IMANIDIOT" i give a thumbs down.

I haven't seen many #2's, but I agree, they're unwarranted.

and #3... I've never given a thumbs down for that.. in fact if someone writes "i agree wholeheartedly with Elvis".. I usually give them a thumbs up. I can use the validation.

Elvis - I give TU for making me laugh out loud.

#2 examples ---- " You better be using an agent " type of remarks . Some seem to get too protective and don't realize people have choices and arrogance doesn't normally help them to see why a professional may be the best best.

Thanks for the reply,
CJ

1. Spam--"I've got a great product for agents..,"
2. Total Attack mode agents--like the dearly departed Mr. Murphy and his rant against everthing Florida!
3. Those who respond to get a "first answer" when they aren't in the state of the question or have NOTHING to say!!
4. Because I get sick and tired of reading their BS in other posts and just for the heck of it nail them!! Yea, I know, "not keeping with Trulia community standards"!!

(i) Self promotion of any kind whether it be subtle or flagrant.
(ii) I'm a Realtor and I know more than you.
(iii) Responses that have so many spelling and or grammatical errors that it becomes painful to read.
(iv) It's a great time to BUY.

I feel that I know (as I am typing) when I am going to get, or at least deserve a thumbs down.

I normally give them for the "call me today so I can be your guy" and the ever present and classic...

"The sky is falling and I can't get up so rent because if you don't al Qaida is going to eat your porridge and every thing else bad could happen" poster

No one mentioned horrendous grammar and spelling? I've tried giving 2 TD for that but it won't let me. I don't mean on the consumer side but as an agent if that is how you represent yourself shame on you. Hope I spelled all that right.

1) people that respond and don't say anything except "great question"
2) posts about pets - especially back and forth posts
3) answers that are so long it takes more than 2 minutes to read.

Hi Sylvia, I saved the Dogbook page and was intending to sign up my two. I will do that as soon as I get a chance. I am also involved with different rescue groups. I tell my DH, people love to give us dogs. At one point we must have owned $5,000 worth of pedigreed, former champion dogs.

OMG, Pam...what can I say....Murphy Brown is so cute, I just want to hug and kiss her!!!

I don't usually give TDs because I have seen questions from other agents who can be bent out of shape by TDs, but if I do, the top three will be -

1) Blatant self-promotion and/or spam

2) Unprofessional answers - rude, mean-spirited, argumentative - differences in opinion is fine, how you present it should be professional - we are on a forum to answer real estate related questions, to raise and promote what we do, unprofessional ism can not be excused.

3) Sloppy / incorrect answers - some incorrect answers you can respond back, but others I will write an email on the side. Depending on the degree, a TD can be warranted.

I almost always give a thumbs when someone hasn't read the entire blog, and makes the exact same comment again....It is pointless, repetitive AND redundant.

I'm going to succumb to trading responses off subject. JR, I am in fact a dog lover, not cute dogs actually, but big, proud, intelligent, beautiful, useful dogs. I also love motorcycles, cars, my wife, my daughters. The city I live in, the state of California, the beauty of the ocean and the way light plays on it, boating, hiking, riding bicycles, bicycle racing and real estate.
It's just a small nuisance to get an e-mail for each of the posts about unrelated subjects.

My Top three reason are,

3) Anytime they mess up my order at the drive thru.

2) Photo radar cameras, totally unfair.

1) Annual National Association of Realtors membership dues.

Jed, obviously you're not a dog lover. :)

I'd add to my pet peeves...agents who's first sentence is "you need to FIRE your agent!"

HI Pam, actually she is my best friend's pup, but I agree she is the cutest thing I have ever seen and always makes me smile. Her name is Teeny, she is a rescue dog, about 4 pounds, a teacup Yorkie.
