Thinking of becoming a listing agent. Where do I start? Please help.

Is there a difference with listing agent and realtor broker? What's the difference between an agent who SELLS homes and one who rents homes? Thanks in advance

If you are thinking about getting into the real estate business, the best way to have all your questions answered is to take a Real Estate class at your local Junior College. Many of them have classes in the evening, and it's a great way to talk to someone in person about all the different opportunities available in the profession. Although there are many classes available online, it sounds like it would benefit you to have a local professional available to give you advice and steer you perhaps to several offices that might be able to help you get a start. As long as your affiliated with a brokerage you can buy, rent and sell property. Some agents like to focus on listing, buyers and both. Explore all options and see what is best for you and the expertise you want to establish.

A real estate license allows you to do both Rental and Sales.

A real estate broker is who you will go work for after you have your real estate license.

Then you can find your niche area like, Buyers agent, Selling Agent, or Rentals.

Your real estate license is good for selling, buying, renting... While many wish to specialize on only listing properties (the icing on the cake) at the end of the day, most agents need to represent buyers often and specially at the beginning of this career.

From your question, I assess you are way upstream regarding making a decision about becoming an agent. Your best pathway to understanding is to have a chat with a few folks who are in the business. The more business they do the more you should want to talk to them.

But, if you do not know the intelligent, probing question to ask, everyone's time will be wasted. Wasting the time of others is the greatest example of disrespect I can imagine. So, invest the time necessary to use time wisely.

Read my seven blogs titled "7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Getting Into Real Estate." The first one is dated FEB 10, 2014. If you won't invest this time in yourself, please don't waste the time of others.

After compiling the intelligent, probing questions, call area agents and offer to buy them a coffee and cheese danish at Panera Bread. That $6 investment will pay huge dividends.

Having a proper vision for YOUR BUSINESS means you won't inherit the business others want to give you....and you may not want.

I agree with Terry, take a real estate licensing course in person, not online. Typically, local brokers will visit the class and talk about the benefits of joining their agencies - those are good opportunities to look for specifics on how they help agents new to the business.
