I'm not trying to be funny here.........but a GREAT book to help you prepare and pass the salesperson exam is "Real Estate License Exam for Dummies". I don't have a super long attention span when it comes to books - when my friend let me borrow the Illinois Salesperson prep textbook, I got through the first chapter before I was bored. I bought the "Dummies" series book in addition to help me understand some of the more confusing topics. It does an AWESOME job of explaining everything to you in simple, easy to understand terms. It's worth the $15-20 buck investment.

The test itself wasn't very hard, in my opinion. For the Illinois test at least, you do have to have a pretty firm grasp on the specificities of some of the topics however. Some of the multiple choice options they give you could ALL be construed as correct, but they want the BEST answer. It's not super easy to use process of elimination. It's a computerized test you will most likely take at a proxy location near your home.

Hope that helps!

As I read your question and some of the various answers my mentors booming voice came into my head.....

"Chance favors the prepared mind!"

If you take the time to attend an exam prep course, you should have no problems passing your license exam. The biggest obstacle that most people find on the exam is it wears you out. If you find yourself on a question that you don’t get right away, mark it and skip on to the next one. If you stay focused on the troubling will affect your confidence in answering the balance of the questions that you do know.

You can always come back to that one later. Often later questions in the exam can help you answer previous questions..or get you thinking about the right answer.

Best of luck to you!

I missed ONE hour of class for the past 12 weeks- 3 hours 2 nights a week- studied my butt off - knew the book inside and out but am pretty sure I just bombed the test. I think in NC they have enough brokers so they go out of their way to make the test impossible . maybe it's just me- but that sucked!

I'm taking the class in NC right now and yes, there are THOUSANDS of brokers/agents here in NC, or so it would seem.. I haven't been in a classroom for a long time and to say it's overwhelming to cram 800+pgs of textbook, workbook, and state book into 10 8-hr classes? It's a lot!! I don't know that I will pass the class next week, but I have nothing to lose! NC test IS quite tough!

Simply stated....if you are prepared, it's an easy and rewarding experience. On the other hand, if you are not.......

Consider referring to the website below for some actual Alabama test question samples.
Hope this helps.

Good luck,

I just took the IL prep course test a couple hours ago... It's def not easy, particularly if you are new to the industry... lots of legal wording and full of tricky and gotcha questions.

The test is about real estate and the test is about 11 inches long (and 8.5 inches wide).
Tests vary by state, recommend you visit the Alabama Real Estate Commision interweb site that describes licensing requirements, see below.
They require a 60 hour course prior to taking the test, the course should tell you what's on the test.

Take a prep class in person and not online. The cost in our area is about 400.00 and students who take the class in person pass the test about 95% of the time. It is way too easy to obtain a real estate license.

In Wisconsin you are given 4.5 hours to take the test. Some finish early and some never pass. Agency seems to be a difficult portion for many. Much of what is learned and tested on in the State test has little to do with everyday processes of a real estate transaction. Personally, I think it needs to be completely revamped. Too much emphasis on things most of us will never encounter and not enough on the everyday transactions.

You have to display knowledge of license law...for some it is easier than others. It depends on your abilities, and willingness to learn the vocabulary of real estate.
