Tell ya, the first year or two of the drop, that was still a conversation piece. Next couple of years, not so much. "Oh, you're in real estate? Wow, things must be tough, huh?"

Now, it's kind of like the old days. People feel smart again, because their houses are worth more - at least around here - and they're starting to think about playing in the market again.

I just have to bask in the limelight . . . .

Ha! I can totally relate... this was the typical response, "Oh you're in real estate? Wow, how are you making it?"

I love how the market shifts and people all of a sudden say, Wow, you're still in, guess you made it through the difficult times, now you can make it through anything

Stay upbeat, Listen to their questions and ideas. Be engaging. There is always something one can do and we are all in this together. We need more jobs and a better economy. We need Congress to work together. Enough of the blame game they all need to take responsibility and work towards some reasonable compromise.

It's amazing or fantastic. It usually leads to more questions and a conversation.

Either Awesome of Amazing, they don't know how to reply. They will probably say great! Unless you are living under a rock you probably know how the market is doing but then again... Dinner party is just small talk :)

I'm honest. If it's slow, I say that it's slowed down. If it's nuts (like it has been this year), I tell them that.

Lots of times people who ask that question will do so only to follow it up with their own take on market conditions. There are a lot of armchair quarterbacks out there!

Hah - thanks Mike!

Glad to see you have a sense of humor, as that comes in handy at a dinner party, too!

"The market depends on where you live. Do you live in Cobb's Landing? ......."
You know where to go from there.
