For Trulia Administrators -- why don't you work on fixing your spam problems before shutting down the blog function? I just had to scroll through

Asked by Suzanne MacDowell, Morristown, NJ Sat Dec 21, 2013

3 pages of spam before coming to a legitimate question. With no ability to blog it's going to be very difficult to maintain my level 3 VIP status if I have to go to Herculean efforts just to find a legitimate question. And it seems to get worse every day. It just seems to me that fixing this spam issue would be your first priority.

I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING. Sorry for yelling but i had to scroll through 9 PAGES of SPAM. I just do not understand why at least 1 person from Trulia is not monitoring their own site on over nights.

It strikes me that it might be wise to just pay someone $8 per hour to manually review posts made between 1 am and 10 am eastern time. That seems to be when I see the wave of ads for non-real estate services. What I find equally intriguing is that they continue to post this nonsense. It seems unlikely that their target audience is either homebuyers or agents in the U.S. Which leaves me the suspicion that who they're actually targetting is Trulia's programmers, who I suspect actually might live in India.
2 votes
Interesting point about who is being targeted - unless the spammers think a lot of businessmen will be flying to Mumbai soon and need those "services"! haha
And, I agree - someone could be paid a nominal amount to patrol the main Q&A page and delete the blatant and massive spam attacks..

They however do no and will not answer any questions or concerns about the spam or POOR customer service. At least my new blog over on AR is not giving me any stress. if anyone has questions on blogging, you can message me and ill try to help you out.

The "last new" ranking system was a direct slap in the face to all those agents who are and have been the most active here. We can hope they have seen the light but then again they did not ask anyone for input on these new changes either?

@Debbie - Ha, ha! Yes, I'm pretty sure Tim works for Trulia. He was able to fix the problem I had which was the first time ever "fixing" actually occurred. And with me on the phone no less "seeing" it happen!

I'm hoping for good things! Too many agents are saying they will leave under the present regime (uh, I mean circumstances) and I'd really hate to see our "group" break up. I've come to know so many, reading responses and saying to myself "that's Chuck all over," or "I bet Lucy will give 'em a piece of her mind."

I like being here. So all of you will have to stay put!

@Karen - " The best part is they will employ a different method to rank agents! (REALLY? WOW)
No longer will it be paying agents receive the highest rankings, while those who have sweat blood go unnoticed! "

Seriously?
Can't wait to see that happen!

That news is kind of surprising as they just "revamped" the agent ranking system a few months ago and staunchly defended their new criteria - even though an explanation of what "Best Match" meant was never made clear............so.......anything would be an improvement.

PS
Are you sure "Tim" works for Trulia and wasn't just a temp filling in? lol

This post is too long to read with 55 previous responses but I think I have "Good News!" I called Trulia last week and spoke with Tim who said they totally revamping the site. The blog section will be the first change we see (they're ahead of schedule,) and it will get better from there. The best part is they will employ a different method to rank agents! No longer will it be paying agents receive the highest rankings, while those who have sweat blood go unnoticed!

Didn't mention anything sooner thinking Tim may have been "well intended." I'm encouraged today to share the news of my conversation as the spam is being controlled.

Yes, Scott, I noticed that , too.

In fact, an individual agent (or lender, not sure) was spamming on Friday night - maybe 20 self promotional posts - and I saw her posts were removed by a Trulia Moderator yesterday, on a Saturday!

Points have not been updated for weeks
Listings showing other offices/agents as listing agents
Verified sold not reflected on profile and photos not uploading

It is DISGUSTING the lack of any service ion Trulia's part that spam from days ago is still here. Now are there any truth to the rumors they took over Active Rain. if so AR is doomed. My AR blog is doing well so i hate for customer service to affect that in a bad way ion the other site too. So far Trulia has sent bloggers to other sites who want to blog and those that stayed to use the q and a section are being driven away by the droves. i track my time spent online and ,y Trulia time is 24% of what it once was.

and so, the weekend spam has begun........................sports anyone?

and yet, the interesting thing is...I noticed a "trulia moderator" removed a question earlier today - it was from a "renter" asking how to buy something with bad credit (your run of the mill question of that nature).....why would trulia delete that?
the spam remains and flourishes......and that rather banal question was removed!
Go figure......

well Laura - you tried!
thanks for your update

the fact that old spam from yesterday was still visible on the site, and had not been deleted, indicates, to me, that they are not paying attention........why? I don't know

"totally" revamping the site is no excuse for ignoring the current site that is up and running

Hi all,
So....I've spoken to Trulia today voicing my concern about the blogging feature being down until the end of January. They say that they are totally tearing down the site and re-building it due to so many glitches and members losing points.
I inquired again about freezing member points until they are back up and functioning wholly since it's now more difficult to maintain one's status. She informed me that they will not do that because there are other avenues on the site to earn points. I informed her about all the spammers now using the Q&A section and how we have to scroll through multiple pages of spam to find a legitimate real estate question which is quite frustrating. She forwarded me to a Supervisor to speak to her about it but, of course, I went into her voicemail. I did leave a lengthy message about it and encouraged her to take a look at the Q&A section to see for herself. I did ask that she return my call so we'll see.
.
Hope this is helpful!

All the spammers asking questions does make it more difficult to find an appropriate question to respond to. Since the blogging feature is shut down, it's frustrating trying to maintain one's VIP status and be helpful to the users of this site.

Merry Christmas everyone. As I log on to post my daily blog...... oh wait the blog is down until January I decide to check out the questions posted over night to see if I can help anyone and low and behold loaded with spam once again. i decide to leave a message to all of you and head over to another blogging site to write my blog. i too have given up flagging spam as no one does anything about it anyway. I am with Debbie where it is just as annoying agents who copy and paste comments on every answer.

Scott - today is "better" in regard to spam because all the live sports streaming junk was for games played YESTERDAY! The escort service people only come out over weekends and/or nights when there are no monitors watching..............so usually a Monday morning will be spam-free

Laura -
interesting - so the sales reps were the last to know? Doesn't the left hand know what the right hand is doing? I mean an email was sent out to everyone who blogs, but no "memo" to the sales reps?
Seriously, how is the company being run?
Wouldn't you think a corporation would make sure it's employees, especially those who have direct access to "agents and lenders", and are on the phone constantly trying to get more of us to sign up would be informed first?

You asked good questions and made some reasonable suggestions.......I am going to take a stab at this..................I predict none of your ideas will be implemented!

Just to recap - the glitches needing attention are:
1. no blogging ability (to be fixed by end of January? - I predict it will go beyond that)
2. main Q&A page not showing new posts
3. Spam is out of control - no excuse for that - Trulia could control it if they wanted to
4. Voices activity - times when your points are missing....then restored..........then missing again

Well - in the scheme of life - honestly, T really isn't very high up on my list.............so, let me now put things in perspective and say:

I want to wish everyone a truly wonderful and happy holiday - good health and success in 2014!

Hi Suzanne,
I just got off the phone with Trulia. The customer service reps were just informed this morning about the blogging section being shut down. The rep informed me that it's down until the end of January.
I expressed my concern about maintaining my VIP status and obtaining a decent ranking with SEO on Google since the blogging feature is no longer available. She replied that there are other avenues to earn our points. I did request to freeze the points to maintain statuses until the blogging section is back up and running to the powers that be at Trulia. Wonder if my voice will be heard?

Thanks for your post and Happy Holidays to you!

The amount of spam on this site has reached "fever pitch," and now understanding the blog function no longer works explains why posts from August have been resurrected. As shared by Debbie Rose, Trulia has to "want to " fix the problems, and there are many. In my time here there's always been some issue going on (and for me without resolve) - maybe not the same one as yesterday or the week before, but something nonetheless.

Wonder if, following the updating, they will allow those of us who don't pay to once again list more than 3 service areas.
That would be nice, wouldn't it?

Would also like to see them fix the glitch that only shows the first answer on the main Q&A page - over and over again.....would be nice to see - as it USED to be - the most recent post appear.

It seems Trulia has been active planting questions and a couple of responses to other question but no results when it comes to removing spam.

Thanks, everyone, for your concern. We know you're frustrated — and trust me, no one's more frustrated with the onslaught of spam in our community than we are. That's why we had to take drastic measures with the blogs, and are doing what we can in Q&A. We're handling from multiple angles, but solutions and timing are unfortunately more complex than ideal.

Until we have final solutions in place, we truly appreciate your patience and flagging spam. We had moderators logged in throughout the holiday week to remove what we could, but were not always able to remove things as immediately as we'd have liked.

As the most active members, we fully appreciate all your efforts in the community.

I am going to date myself, but - I am old Twilight Zone tv show fan......(they run marathon Twilight Zones every New Year's Day on the Sci Fi channel - my challenge - to myself- is to find one I never saw!).

Anyway, there was one show where the man always complained about people - he wished they'd all go away.......he wakes up on day and somehow - he is granted his wish........he is alone in the world (he loves to read, and is happy he can spend his days reading undisturbed now that everyone is mysteriously gone - the last twist, final irony is - he trips and falls........... and breaks his only pair of reading glasses ).

Anyway, I feel like the Twilight Zone is playing out at Trulia........these days........they all went missing!

During the years that I've been involved ith trulia I've made two observations relative to this thread. First, the amount and degree of inappropriate spam has increased by many time. The second observation is that trulia's degree of interest in solving genuine problems has decreased proportionally with the spam increase.

We've all seen the fate general disregard and can therefore anticipate the future of a well intended and one time very special program.

Frustrates, angry(at times), disappointed, puzzled......

Let's hope for our long awaited improvements in the coming "New Year!"

Laura, if you tried to add a comment, as in leaving a "reply" under my response, I have discovered yet another glitch here.

The system won't let you leave more than 1 reply, at a time, on a forum - in order to leave a 2nd "reply" for someone else, you have to leave the forum, and then come back!
Otherwise, it won't accept your reply.
