For the record, I make sure all toilet seats are in the down position!
Truthfully, there are a far greater number of consumers who never respond to our answers with a TU, or, better yet, a follow up reply in regard to the advice that was offered.

While asking for thumbs up or best answer can be sad, cheesy, desperate...not giving a fellow agent thumbs up for answering your question about -what you think about "showing a property and the toilet seat was up" it's just plain RUDE.
We can all see these poor soles are desperate folks pleading for attention who have so little mental energy they add little of fabric to any topic.
BUT, please be aware, in the great big advertising playground, we are all allowed to freedom to experiment with what works. These of whom we complain will soon measure the outcome and will move on to other tactics.
Please stop wishing for Trulia to be like the dark side. Truiia is better for professionals, even with all the garbage.
Lets exercise more tolerance. I know, when it comes to TRULIA we are all being stretched to our last nerve, and then a panderer comes along and steps on this last one, and we don't like it!
Leave a revealing comment of acknowledgement for the panderer, give a thumbs down, and move on.
Or, why not link questions like this to the offending post. Would that not create some accountability? It could backfire, but if this is a REAL issue, is not the effort worth the risk?

as an aside..........
Annette - in regard to your question about how many "recommends" we have..........I, personally, held off from asking ANYONE for that....(some fellow agents graciously offered one or 2 here and there), but I never asked my clients to "recommend" me.....I didn't want to get involved with that.......until late 2013.
Well, I was annoyed to learn that T changed how they list and rank agents.........and, without any recommendations, I didn't appear at all on the agent rankings for that category.....the categories are now weighted heavily for those who pay, not how much one contributes...........agents who never answer an online question (and some agents I know, who don't really do ANY business, either) were/are listed high up on the list........and I was nowhere to be seen.
That really annoyed me......so, reluctantly, I decided to play the game (if you can't beat 'em, join 'em I guess) and asked a few recent clients for a recommendation.......I won't even try to compete with those agents who have 20, 30 or over 40 recommendations...........to each his own...........as long as I appear somewhere on the list, I am ok with that...........
Bill - to your point about those who "lower the bar" (I agree) but let me invite all of you, if you're not already there, to a Facebook group called "Raise the Bar in Real Estate". It is refreshing to see so many Realtors on a forum who are educated, professional and articulate regarding our industry and surrounding issues.
The majority of them on that forum do us proud.
There is another group I observe, and occasionally participate in, on FB (wont mention the name) that, to me, has a distinctively different "flavor", and I often cringe at some of the less than stellar/professional comments left there.......quite a contrast between the 2 groups.
So..........clearly, as we all know, Realtors come in all shapes and sizes.....some make us proud to call them "fellow agents"........some not so much. (I'd put those who beg for a TU or BA in the latter category).
To Randy and Vicki's point - that topic - syndicating our listings to these kind of sites - is being heavily and hotly debated all over these days.
I recently read an article, and saw a YouTube clip, from a company In San Diego (Abbott Realtors, I believe) where the owner has cut off the syndication of his company's listings - they are no longer on Z and T........ his video is quite, imo, compelling. I applaud him for taking that big step and going against the current which tells us we MUST syndicate in order to "give consumers what they want".
I don;t know......my personal verdict is still out.
My biggest grip is with the fact that we all have let these big sites like Trulia & Zillow take over our real estate business form the internet side of things. We've let them get so big by giving them all of our listings for free and then they turn around and charge us for our leads that were generated by our own MLS and Board dues.
I guess what really ticks me off is that I didn't think of it 1st. Brilliant business model!
I like Scott's answer about answering like the person asking is family, answer from the heart. This has been my approach to. I have benefitted from my time here. I've received more business as a result of my energy in this forum than the paid advertising I've also done here.
Everyone here has received 1 thumbs up from me for answering. I love giving them and I'm also not shy about a thumbs down when I see Copy & Paste non responsive answers that are all self promotion.

PLEASE, make a contribution. Answer the question with a meaningful answer that hasn't already been stated 17 times.
Get an attorney is meaningful up to 3 answers, it emphasizes the questioner is out of their depths, but over and over with no other meaningful content is just boring and reinforces that we are lazy agents. At least skim some other answers and bring something new to the table.
If its a complicated subject, write a blog post here or on ActiveRain.com and reference it.

No, I mean the really important benefit! These recommends and testimonials are about marketing, NOT how wonderful you are. IT IS ALL ABOUT HUMMINGBIRD!
Hey folks this is simply marketing. Unfortunately, these folks will come to realize, Trulia handicaps the agents who play in the advertising playground. It was worth a try. But, understand we all do the same thing, though less 'in your face' when we schlep for recommends.
I agree, it is not a very classy appeal, but neither are the attorney ads on Tampa TV pleading you to call them if you've been bitten by your neighbors poodle, had a fall in the local grocer or been rear ended.
IT is MARKETING. As marketing experts who have a license to get paid for real estate assistance, we need to recognize it for what it is and let it go.
Actually, when your marketing is WORKING, your competitors start criticizing the method. One heavy hitter at REALTEC sends out the cheapest possible postcard on copy paper...I communicates without words "I'm the 'Everything for a Dollar' REALTOR and his peers turn up their noses. Did I mention he's a heavy hitter?

Imagine how this would fly in any other profession.....doctors, lawyers, educators, etc. etc. In my opinion, this is but another example of a profession in which its constituents insist on "lowering the bar!" Right or wrong, fair or unfair....how does this make us look as a profession?
