I'm not a realtor but here's what I'd do..Get a map of GA first and foremost. Using a highlighter highlight the areas of interest to you and your family.

Go, look at several different homes that suite your needs. When you get back to your hotel, lay out your map and ask your relator to help even while you are being shown homes to mark the homes on a map. Maybe even, if you let your rep know with plenty of time, they'll pick up a map of just the county for you, mark it for you,making your job easier.

Go back to the houses on your own. One doesn't have to have a key to see how the noise levels are at say prime time traffic, or what about neighbors, stay over a Friday and Saturday night...if you find LOUD neighbors and it's not to you taste,cross that home off your list or move in and be miserable.

Knock on the doors of your neighbors. Ask good questions, about their likes, their dislikes and finally...located your office in regards to your possible home and get out and DRIVE IT, both learning your morning commute to the office and what your drive home will be like...both taken at prime traffic times.

Finally, the best person who decides where to live, is YOU!!! Don't expect everyone else to do the work for you. No one will perceive right from wrong like you yourself! Oh, and to not waste anyone's time, before you arrive to meet your realtor have the crime reports ready as one of the other replies here tells you to get. Your due diligence will pay off and you will be the happiest in a home/area that you picked because you made a knowledgeable decision...on your terms!

The answers provided have been "on the mark." Trulia proves to be a valuable resource for people requiring real estate information.

We would like to add that sellers often overlook the importance of getting all the facts before listing their property.....assuming "one size fits all" and everyone approaches selling RE the same way. One of the most frequent criticisms is that sellers assumed that their agent would do this or that.....

Sellers should protect their interest by having a clear understanding of the total services that will be provided while marketing the home. This is simple enough accomplished by requesting a written account of the agent's comprehensive marketing plan for selling your specific property. Anyone worth their "salt" will be able to address this request and you will be able to use it as a "blueprint" to trace the progress of your sale.

If an agent can't verbally express their plan beyond saying, it'll be on the MLS, we'll put a sign in your yard and advertise occasionally in a magazine, it may be best to keep searching for someone that knows what they are doing.....

Zillow is great at telling you how many days a house had been on the market for the current listing. A sales agent is able to determine previous listing dates and price reductions which is a great help. Likewise, you should look at the price the owner paid for the home and the current mortgage.
