When you mention your identity was given to a third party, are you saying a third party called you as a solicitation? The reason why I ask, is that Countrywide uses Credco for their credit information. If you are not on the opt out list, Credco will sell your information to the highest bidder. Meaning if you apply for a home or auto loan, the inquiry is marked that you are shopping and Credco sells your information.
It is wrong but until they are sued, there isn't anything that anyone can do about it. It's called a "trigger lead" and anyone can read about them on the internet. In order for you not to have your information sold, you need to make sure you add your name to the opt out list at least 3 days before applying for a home or auto loan or at least make sure no involved parties use Credco.
