Hamilton is a great area to live. The weather is incredible. The wind will kick up a little along the levee and on some of the hiking trails. Hamilton School is right at the Main Gate entrance. There is also the Novato Charter School in Hamilton. The high school for the area is Novato High School. Many things for kids and teens to do. There actually is a skate park in Hamilton as well as a community pool. You can walk to the Hamilton Market Place from anywhere in Hamilton. There is a Pete's coffee and a few nice places to eat. I highly recommend the Hamilton area for any family looking for the best on Novato living.... more
As a happy and long time Hamilton resident, it's interesting how in 2010, competing Marin relators continue to make generalized statements which are mis-leading and mis-representative of our neighborhood.
Let's be clear, Hamilton Field was decommissioned in January 1976, nearly 35 years ago. In fact, most of us parents were barely out of diapers ourselves at that time.
Yes, 25 years ago, after the site was sold to a private developer, they asked the USAF to cleanup a handful of acres which had been used as dump areas. The USAF agreed and completed a multi-million dollar cleanup effort. Let's be even more specific, these cleaned up areas are on the outskirts of the over 700 acres that makeup the large Hamilton area. There is not a single home or neighborhood even built in these old areas.
So, it is ridiculous to suggest that you can't plant a fruit tree in your yard because almost a mile away there happens to be is a tiny parcel of land which, 40 years ago, was used as a dump.
Interestingly, every single city/county in the country has such dumps, only they don't even ever need to clean them up and nobody gives it a second thought. The fact that, years ago, the USAF did announce their effort to take care of Hamilton was "spun" into a negative, rather than applauded.
Maybe that's because the neighborhoods in Hamilton are some of the most modern in Marin. I can only suspect that the idea of a "Truman Show-ish" development perturbed many county traditionalists and so they set out to "bad mouth" the area at that time. Well, I don't know anyone in Hamilton who doesn't love living here, so years later, it has been their loss.... more
