Condos are typically shared communities. As an owner of condo you usually have a voice, when it comes to rules about aesthetics, safety, etc. Apartments often have the community rules, too, but they’re usually set by the landlord.
Take into consideration that when you buy an apartment its possible that many of your neighbors will be renters, and they can move in and move out often.

The issue that I'm seeing currently in San Francisco is that the inventory isn't as high as we all expected. Many agents and buyers were excited for the Spring market to hit and it has been slow to materialize. Right now we are just starting to see the surge in inventory. Prior to this though there were few good homes/condos coming on the market and every time something decent did, the many buyers would flock to it. This has caused many new listings recently to sell for more than the asking price. I also think that that sellers have finally come to terms that there home is worth less than it did several years ago and they realize that the market will not make a quick comeback in the next couple years. If they want to sell they will have to price their home at a reduced cost. So homes are hitting the market at a lower price and the few good ones are being snatched up in a multi-offer situation. How long do you plan on owning this property? Have you been pre-approved by a lender? Do you know how to make an offer and what other items in addition to the "Contract for Sale and Purchase" are required? How have you calculated your offer price? Are you sure you're not over-paying?
