I think you got your own advice. Sometimes, it doesn't make sense to build on a piece of land. City fees, County fees, school fees, misc development fees as well as wet and dry utility installation costs will determine if development makes sense or not. Oak Hills has a rural area that does have brush. Are you asking if you buy a house in Oak Hills will you be paying the extra $150 a year assessment for fire prevention, the answer is most likely yes. If you lived here you would keep the brush away from your house. I have many friends that live in Oak Hills and love the convenience to the high desert and to the basin communities. Many commuters find it great place to live. There are many larger executive style homes in the area. This area may appeal to people that enjoy an equestrian live style. There is also a tract area in Oak Hills with side walks and smaller lots. We have a little bit of everything in the High Desert.
Hi Lola, when you purchase an existing home you actually temporarily inherit the prior owners tax rate/amount. This happens because it takes the County some time to recognize the change in ownership, which triggers a Supplemental Tax bill, and then levy the new tax based on last sale price on January 1st of the year. Since you bought in July, you should have been reassessed downward on Jan 1, 2009.

FYI, one way to know when your taxes are due and delinquent is to remember the saying, "No Darn Fooling Around", or NDFA.

Under Proposition 13, real property is reappraised only when a change in ownership occurs, or after new construction is completed. Partially completed new construction is also added as of January 1.
