One thing in addition to using the Buyer Advisory to do research on a home before buying (or renting, for that matter!) is to google the owner's name and that address and see if any news reports pop up. In 2010 alone, buyers I was representing discovered deaths at homes before going through with purchasing them three different times! These were nice homes in great neighborhoods - just goes to show you that crime does happen everywhere! Since that is something that legally does not need to be disclosed, they may not have found out otherwise. Another great idea is to go talk to the neighbors of a house you are considering. When you tell them you are considering the home and ask how long they have lived there and how they like it, most are usually all too happy to share their opinions and 'the scoop' about the house.
