The quickest way I find to get this information is to look up the town hall - between the town clerk and the town assesor you should be able to get everything you need. Get a copy of the deed (which will tell you who is the legal owner of the property), the town card (this document has sq. footage and basic house information bedrooms/baths etc, past sale prices and closing dates). If your town is in the computer age you can get most of this information online.
Good luck!

Call a local agent familiar with the market and they will get you started on the right track.
