The online sites do often have a problem coming up with the correct values. It is a very rough guide. Sites like Zillow were all the rage for a while, until people found out in Texas there is often a HUGE margin of error...something like 50%....I might be able to do better than that with a guess driving down the street and no more information that looking at the outside of the house. Tax values aren't always that much better in my opinion. Sometimes they can be too high, sometimes too low. One of the biggest issues for the sites is that we do not always disclose sales prices in Texas...so they are not available online somewhere as a reference.
