You know what they say: honesty is the best policy.
And, in this case, what they say holds true.
It is a bad, bad idea to mislead in this situation.
That being said, it is only logical that you would want to paint the shiniest finish on your truth and your lender should be able to assist you best in anticipating what will need to be included in your letter based on his or her experience.
