Hi, If you are secure in you jobs, it makes total sense to purchase something. In this market, you can get much more house for the money than you could a few years ago. I always recommend to my clients that they do not purchase at the high end of their budget--you certainly don't want to be house poor. Your main consideration should be finding a location you love; with effort, any house can be turned into a "dream home", but the location can't be changed. I don't think it's necessary to find the cheapest house, but just one well with-in your budget that will allow you the extra cash flow to make it into exactly what you want! ... more

I just saw your post and wanted to let you know that the market in the greenbriar school district is super hot right now. If you are seriously considering buying in that area, you may want to connect with an agent soon. For example, agents have what is called 'pocket listings' these are homes that will be coming on the market within the next week or so.

By working with an agent. He or she can let you know about the pockets before they hit the mls.

I only sell homes in northbrook, and I grew up here. So I have a strong understaning of the town, street by street. if you are looking for more information about northbrook, I'd be happy to talk to you. Good luck with your search!

In northbrook i see thats where you are e-mailing this from we have a few properties that are lease hold. Its funny neither of the first two answers ever answered your question.
You don'town the land and it reverts back to the landlord after it expires or in some cases i saw in NB. You have to pay an additional 5 rs of assessments at the end to renew your 50- 99 yr lease other wise you have only the building that is yours and I would start looking for another location to move it to if your leasehold is not renewible at the end of your term. This is why the property is below market value for simular properties at don't have this leasehold ownership on it. You Need A Good Attorney and realtor who can help you in this situation. A good realtor so you don't over pay for this type of real estate ownership and a good atorney who adress all of these issues with you before your attorney approval date is up. ... more
