There are certain places that look fine during the day, but when night falls you want to be nowhere near. Memphis is really odd, some of the streets that I believe to be the safest are less than a half mile from streets that I consider to be the least safest. You just have to do your homework. Condition and location are the key. You seem to be speaking from zip 38107, where there is a wide variety of neighborhood conditions. Did you get the $70,000 figure from the tax assessor, or a recent appraisal? Is the home in good conditon with upgrade, and good heat and air? would it be considered a safe and walkable block? Tina, If reference to your question, there are great fixer uppers in Midtown, but they go quick. Working with an agent who watches the midtown market is a must, and you will need to be ready as well on your end. By this I mean know what you are looking for, have your financing lined up, and feel confident to make an offer when the opportunity strikes.
