I don't think there's any requirement for a second lock. It definitely is more common, but not necessary. I would suggest talking to the landlord to see if you can add another lock. They shouldn't have any objections to it as long as you give them a copy of the key. That's definitely going to be your best bet with all of this.

Check out Lindsfeild in 34747, it's off of 192 and if you look at rentals for that community, you will find a lot of people who are Owner operated rentals, meaning you can communicate with them directly and possibly secure something in advance, rather than dealing with a company and speculation or waiting around.
