Hi,

I would add another comment to those already posted here. The Chinese drywall can also be found in older homes that had remodeling done during that time period as well.

Sometimes the remodeling jobs were extensive enough that building permits were required, so you can check with the county building department's website for permits issued for a home during that time period. Sometimes the remodeling does not require a permit OR the owner did the remodeling without permits -- so if it appears that a home has been remodeled at some point, ask questions about when the work was done and you should seriously consider having the home evaluated for Chinese drywall under the Inspection Period of the contract should you go under contract to purchase it.

There are a number of stories about the Chinese drywall, which subdivisions were found to have it, etc located on the on line version of the local newspaper, the Sarasota Herald, if you'd like to read more on the topic.

Hi Debby:

There are some really great places to start looking such as Lakeshore Village in Sarasota. This is a hidden gem of a property with about 12 homes for sale. There are two community pools, and plenty of activities to participate it. You can also look at Strathmore Villa, and there are some excpetional values in Venice at Jacaranda Lakes. I can think of several places you should consider, and with a little negotiation, you just might be suprised what you can get. Feel free to contact me for more useful info. ... more
