I agree with a few of the postings here. Very often, landlords do not check credit or care about it. If it comes up, be truthful. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that 25% of the population is having credit issues now. References are very important. Send me an email if you would like a generic rental application that I send out to potential renters. A neat, complete rental application goes a long way.
On the flip side, be wary of a landlord that is too easy to take renters with so-so credit. They may be a little too eager to get you in there.

I would guess that there are alot of foreclosures in this subdivision because the prices were much higher during the peak of building and when the prices decreased many people chose to let their land go back to the bank rather than continuing to pay for it thinking that their land wouldn't appreciate to the amount needed. This is often the case when it comes to vacant land which is one reason it is so hard to get vacant land financed.

Very good question... Home insurance vary depending on the age of the home to location. I would recommend having an insurance company contact you so that they can better answer this question. I can provide you with some wonderful insurance agents that can help you. Another factor to keep in mind is that here in Brevard County many homes have Wind Mitigations done that can help lower your homeowners cost as well. It is based on credits. The more credits you receive, the lower the cost for insurance. The biggest credit you can receive is the type of roof you have. A hip roof/verse a gable roof will save you more money.
Also homes built between 1964-1965 may have aluminum wiring which can be very expensive if you are needing insurance.
Another factor is location.... Merrit Island and the beaches due to their location might cost you more on home owners insurance compared to the mainland.
