Hi Courtney.... As in ANY zipcode, you will find those areas you don't feel right in and others you do. Based upon previous answers, you've received some good websites to research upon so I don't need to repeat them. No zipcode is perfect and no zipcode is wrong. It comes down to what you are looking for and what you can afford to live in. I wish I could or was allowed to say yes or no. My best suggestion to you is to look at homes that fit your needs and then drive through those areas at various times of day to make up your own mind. I will tell you, that as far as schools, you ARE looking at Wake County. At this point, there really aren't any defined schools per a any zipcode...but..Wake County does have a Magnet School program so you could decide on any of those and apply for it. If accepted..only thing is you may have to provide transportation to that school yourself.

If there is is anything I can personally do to assist you, please don't hesitate to contact me. For more school information or to search for homes in any zipcode, please check out my website at http://www.RaleighHomeSite.com .

Joe,

No matter what you do, there will always be someone with something negative to say. I no longer live in Raleigh, but during 18 years I was there I lived downtown (in Mordecai, walking distance to Oakwood) and in NW Raleigh near Millbrook and Glenwood. I noticed your current ZIP Code is 27612.

Is being downtown important to you? One of the advantages to living close to downtown is that I could be ANYWHERE in 15 minutes. If your work, and free time activities revolve around downtown, then you may be happier living in one of those neighborhoods, even if you need to install a security system.

NW Raleigh does offer plenty of convenience for those working in RTP OR downtown, and you will get more house for your money, so instead of the "small house" you are looking at, you might end up with a garage or a pool in another location. It all comes down to what makes YOU happy.

Best of luck!

Hi Joe,

The other respondents are correct. You'll be best suited having someone whose knowledgable about the process and can aid you in getting the best deal and in the process saving you money and future headaches.

Unless you have extensive knowledge of real estate law and NC contracts you would be doing yourself an injustice by not having counsel and a professional expert to aid you in the purchase.

Good luck!
