Added info: will I need to have my aunt/uncle get an easement from my family's farm for the use of the well in order for them to sell to me?
Here is the bigger question (and where it gets complicated). The farmhouse is in pretty rough shape (septic issue above; well issue above; foundation failing/presently supported by lally columns; paint may or may not contain lead; etc.). I have found some information about exchanging an acre of land not presently in land preservation for an acre of land in land preservation. I have talked to the county and proposed the idea: I buy the farmhouse, then ease it to the land preservation program in exchange for an acre of land somewhere else on my family's farm. Since I would be buying the farmhouse just to tear it down and then rebuild elsewhere after making the land exchange with land preservation, do you think the well/septic issues raised above would prevent me from buying the house as-is? In other words, if I am just going to demo the house, why have to show that there is a septic/get an easement for land I will be exchanging?
