New York City is very tenant friendly but there is no law protecting tenants for the number of years you lived there. All rental housing laws revolve on whether you have a signed lease or not. If you have a signed lease, you are well protected. If you don't have a signed lease, New York City's laws do not protect you much.

Based on your situation, your best bet is to talk with your landlord about any issues you have especially if you do not have a signed lease. If you have lived there a long time, paid your rent every month on time and kept the rental clean, hopefully your landlord will take that into consideration. Your other option is to look for rentals in the Bronx or Long Island. Rentals are much cheaper than Queens.
