Hi Angie,

My daughter has gone through the Tiburon school system from K-8th. I think that within the schools there is some healthy competition among the kids, but that the schools have found a healthy balance between challenging the kids academically without pushing too much.

The homework from K-6th is not bad, but it does pick up in middle school. With that being said, it never rarely with my daughters after school programs.

I think that with most communities you will find some parents/kids who are more competitive than others, but overall, it is pretty well balanced.

If you are relocating and I can help in anyway, please feel free to contact me. I know the schools and community well as I have lived here for over 13 years.

Thanks Angie and I hope the information above is helpful.

I don't think so, there would be such a huge push back from home owners. Families with young children move to Greenbrae for the school district. it would be really hard to have something like that happen. Not to mention that it would also cause a decline in home prices, should they decide to change the school districts around.
That being said, Bacich can become impacted like some of the schools have in Mill Valley, where a family new to the area may end up initially at a different school and be wait listed for the school that their home is actually in. I have had this happen to clients of mine in Mill Valley but their child ended up at their neighborhood school the following year.

Hi - I looked at past history of this property, it has the same pictures, so you may or may not get more pictures.

The best way is to go and see the house if you have not done so already. The house is still available. Owner is looking for one year lease and will not accept pets or smokers.

If you do not have an agent representing you, give me a call at (415) 717-0293, I can show it to you.

Best,
Sylvia

My husband accepted a job in San Rafael. We will be moving in June from the Midwest. We are looking into Petaluma, San Rafael, or Novato to live. We have 3 kids so schools are important . I think we may choose Petaluma. I keep reading wonderful things about it. Rental homes seem to be a little cheaper there or am I mistaken? We don't want to go over $3,000 per month for rent. We have 1 dog and 2 cats. Can we get a 3-4 bedroom home for that amount in those areas? I have been looking on here and craiglist. It's all very overwhelming.
Help this misguided Midwestern. Thanks

The best elementary schools are in Tiburon, Ross, Mill Valley, Kentfield/Greenbrae, Larkspur/Corte Madera. This gives you many choices--and there are moore good ones, like Brookside in San Anselmo! Please see http://www.livinginmarin.com/marin-schools-ratings.php for ratings amd more info. Given your interest in schools, we recommend Tiburon or Mill Valley. Depends whether you want to be near the water or mountain--and your price range. Tiburon homes will cost more. We love Sausalito, but it is lower on the list for schools. ... more

Hi Aslammodan:

How a person defines a 'Good School' can be very different from one person to the other. It really depends on what you are looking for for your kids.

In general, Novato schools are all quite nice, but each one is unique in the make up and what it offers. I live and work in Novato and my kids went through Novato public school system, I will be very happy to answer any question you might have. Just let me know.

Thanks!

Hi -

I am the listing agent for 117 Caspar Place. The neighborhood schools for this property are:
Elementary School - Lynwood
Middle School - San Jose
High School - Novato High

I think whether they are 'walking' distance will depend on individuals. I used to walk a long time to get to my schools when I was little, but people use cars more, so the definition has changed some.

Hope this answers your question.

Carol Dean answered:
Hi,
In June the Independent Journal published how the Marin schools fared in the Academic Performance Index report released by the California Department of Education. Nearly a third ranked in the top 10%. You can see these online on their site or with the California Department of Education. There are 7 elementary schools, two, Glenwood at 901 and Sun Valley at 918, scoring in the 900's, Davidson Middle scoring in the low 800's, then San Rafael High at 761 and Terra Linda High at 812 (Redwood at 899, Tamalpais at 853 and Drake at 857). So, it depends upon where in San Rafael you want to buy. For example, I have a listing at 225 Ridgewood Drive (www.225RidgewoodDr.com) which is in the Sun Valley School district. Sun Valley scored 918 out of 1000, which is great.

I would be happy to discuss this with you. Some folks buy in one area, then move when their children get to high school age, or move into the Terra Linda High district which scores higher than San Rafael. Or there are other options. It also depends upon your buying price point. Please call me if you wish and leave your contact info if I don't answer. Carol Dean, Frank Howard Allen, Greenbrae, 415-925-3294, 415-250-4187 or cdean@fhallen.com. Thank you.

Hi Jeff. I would recommending visiting http://www.greatschools.org as a starting point for your research. You can also contact the school in the area you are considering and see if they are holding an open day. This gives you a real insight into whether the school will fit with your child's development.

Some of the Sausalito schools got hammered with poor performance scores few years ago. Since then, they have made leaps forward and improved significantly. If you're serious about a potential move here, I would tour the areas and a couple of schools before making your buying decision. All of the high schools in Marin are great. You can find out more about Sausalito schools in the community section of our website below, simply scroll down to the bottom of the linked page and you'll see school information link. Thanks for the question. ... more

Lola,
Both high schools are operated by the San Rafael High School District, so residents of northern San Rafael (94903) and central San Rafael (94901) have the choice of either high school. Student population numbers are quite similar and test scores differ slightly from year to year. For further information or specific questions, visit www.srcs.org. For California STAR test score results, visit http://star.cde.ca.gov.
As always, things change from year to year, so if your children are younger than high school age, all or some of the statistics may be different when your children are ready to enter high school.
Let us know if we can be of any further assistance. We have both raised children in Marin county over the last 32 years.

Most public schoos in Marin are excellent, Corte Madera being no exception. It does little good to rank "best" by test scores. Look for parent involvement, a good school foundation and talk to some of the parents. I have kids in each of the public schools -- Neil Cummins, Hall and Redwood -- and we have been extremely happy with all three. Many parents in Marin also opt for private schools and that's a great option as well. The great thing about Marin is you have a lot of choices and you can really find the school that's right for your child's individual needs. ... more
