Have you checked out the "rent" section at the top of Trulia? There may be something in there. Otherwise you could also check Craigslist.com to see what they have for posted for rentals. ... more

Hi Brigitte,
I was looking for short-term leases for furnished places for myself for several months before my new place was finished and it wasn't so easy to find, especially if you want to be centrally located. Most leases here are for a year. We ended up staying at Sagebrook off of Sage across from Lowe's for $1650/mo. To be honest, it was depressing though manageable. It felt like we were back in college with the quality of everything. Location and internet were excellent. Anyway, I would spend some time looking for furnished short-term rentals. There may be much better options than I found because I was looking in Oct.

More importantly, spend time online looking for what you want to buy. Location is the most important decision. Are schools important to you? If you are looking for the Chapel Hill Carrboro Schools, please not that not all Chapel Hill addresses are in the school system. Some are in Orange, Chatham or Durham counties. If that doesn't matter to you, then you'll have many more options for housing.

My dad was born in Waterbury. You will love living here, trust me. Good luck with your move, we are snowed in so feel free to call anytime.

What is your definition of affordable? Price is dependent on location, condition and size. Do you need Chapel Hill/Carrboro proper or can you be further out?

I've never been to Palo Alto or Walnut Creek, but would suggest that you may wish to look in Southern Village or Meadowmont in Chapel Hill.
