Hey Khorrine!

First, to answer your question. Most landlords when they run a "rental history report" the main things they are actually doing is checking your credit and eviction history. In general, most people that have Decent credit are also decent tenants.

That said, if you have a list of happy satisfied previous landlords and steady income coming in, stress those two points to potential places and you should be able to find a landlord ready to work with you!

Its probably a good idea to run your own rental history report to see what landlords know about you. Check out myrentalhistoryreport.com to get one.

Also, check out a service like rentalkharma which lets you rebuild credit by paying your rent on time. Could be a great resource for you.

Hello, Bridgette!

Try searching for an agent on Trulia! Look for one with a PRO designation along with a Level 3 VIP ribbon. That tells you they are engaged in the real estate conversation in your area.

Good Luck!

If you cannot find an agent, contact me directly at Ron@EmeraldEstatesRealty.com

Nope. They don't check on nuthin'. Rentals are input directly by consumers and are rife with scams. Caveat Emptor.

It's not just this site, Christine, many others including Craig's List have the same problem. It's mostly rental listings at the moment. I have wracked my brain as to how we can put an end to it, but since it's international, law enforcement's ability to combat it is limited. Here in New Jersey we often ask tenants to pay the realtor's fee on rentals, which is generally equal to one month's rent so a substantial amount, but I have former tenants coming back to me more and more often because they would rather pay me than take a chance on losing even more if they fall victim to one of these scams. ... more

Be mindful that such web sites are third party sites, so the information is fed by various sources, therefore data is not really verified. If you choose not to work with an agent of your own always verify ownership before exchanging any money/personal information--make certain they are who they claim to be. Never wire any money, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. For scam related information see link.
