What they do not tell you about are the "Assessments" . They are upfront about condo fees. The board votes on ambiguous repairs and we get billed anywhere from $ 200-1500 at random . WE do dot always have the money readily available. Getting repairs done is aggravation they never seem to ix things. We lose our water pressure almost every couple days and there are times when the water just does not come. We went eight days without a shower while we waited for the water to be fixed and the fix was not permanent. ... more

It just depends on your lifestyle. I would suggest you do a few Sundays of open houses, go to some tag sales, go to the library of each town and the town hall of each town. I would also suggest you go buy something down at Peter's in Weston and then go to Trader Joes and Fresh Market or Whole Foods in Westport. Time how far it is to your pediatrician is to your target areas. I would also try to park in downtown Westport and walk around down there. Go to the beach, to Sherwood Island in Westport and to Bisceglie Park and Devi's Den on Pent Road in Weston and see if you like the facilities there. Take a tour of the schools. I can help you. I am a native of Westport and grew up when Weston used Staples as a High School so Weston also feels like my town. ... more

I have lived in Lyme for the past two years and absolutely love it! I have found the area to be picturesque and has the best of all worlds. Beaches, rolling pastures, wooded areas with hiking trails, river access for kayaking, and a large lake area. The people that I have met have been very welcoming and I have made many friends. The town offers many opportunities to get involved and meet other people. I have three children that attend the high school and they are actively engaged. I would highly recommend this area.
If you would like to know more about the town please don't hesitate to contact me at 860-343-7825

99% of the time our seasons follow along with what everyone is saying. (I was born and raised here and can't think of anywhere else I'd rather live - god bless the seasons!!!). That being said, we had a major thunderstorm here yesterday (in January!), so sometimes a curve ball is thrown. ... more

I have not heard of any of those problems, and I have been involved with town government for many years (ten years as a Selectman) and three on the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission. This transfer station has been ooperating at this site for many years, and switched from open bins to closed bins a few years ago as an expense reduction measure. Before there was a transfer station there was an old style landfill across the street,, but that was at least twenty years ago. Canton does an excellent job of recycling and I find that in my household I am recycling about four trash barrels out of five. ... more

Unfortunately, this area hasn't seen much life since the late 1940's. It is economically depressed and has been for a long time. Even Ella Grasso's attempt at bringing Winsted back to life by ending the highway in Winsted did little to bring economic growth to the area. For those that live and have lived in Winsted the town is quaint, offers unique entertainment, gorgeous (but unfortunately private) lake, and is close enough to MA to make a drive for cheaper alcohol and cigarettes worth the trip. Even an attempt to bring a first class hotel to the lake area failed to come to fruition. In some ways those in authority or who have the greatest influence in the area don't want it to change. ... more

Willimantic's so-called Hill Section has dozens of carefully restored Victorian homes, so many in fact that a local organization each year hosts Victorian Home Days in early June. Despite their grandeur and majesty, the homes tend to be affordable for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is their size (read that as "heating costs"). However, a good friend insulated his 2000+ square foot home and realized significant heating cost savings. The Hill Section is friendly and walkable, for people and people with dogs. ... more

I am not in real estate thus this is not a sales pitch.
I moved from from the Gould Manor area of Fairfield approx. 30 years ago and have not regreted it for one minute. I live in the Woodmont area of Milford two blocks from beautiful Anchor Beach. Milford's Schools are great especially East Shore Middle where teachers actually care for their students.
Depending on your budget and your Family situation start your search for homes in Woodmont, you can't go wrong.
Be well.
