This depends, too, on the location of the home. In some communities, public water and sewer are just not available at the street. Homes in those communities can only use well water and septic systems. Testing is available and, generally, the water is just fine. And it's free! ... more

Contact your local municipality. They should have that information on hand. (If not, they'll connect you with the water company, who should be able to assist you.)
